FSSC 22000

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

Certification in accordance with FSSC 22000 (Food Safety Certification 22000) is a reliable and internationally recognized system for the auditing and certification of food safety systems in the food chain, based on the ISO standards.

FSSC 22000 is a combination of ISO 22000, ISO 22003 standards and the technical industry specifications of the "Prerequisite Program" (PPU) that have been contaminated through extensive open consultation with numerous interested organizations.

Manufacturers already certified to ISO 22000 can obtain the FSSC 22000 certificate, recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). For this, the technical industry specifications PPU requirements and certification scheme additional requirements must be met.

FSSC 22000 was developed for the food safety systems certification that process or produce:

  • livestock products,
  • perishable vegetable products,
  • products with a long shelf life and (other) food ingredients, such as additives, vitamins and bio cultures,
  • packaging for food.

The certification and issuance of FSSC 22000 certificates have only the certification authorities that have concluded an agreement with FSSC 22000. The FSSC 22000 certification scheme is fully recognized and approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and the European Accreditation Cooperation (EA).

An independent non-profit food safety certification Fund based in the Netherlands, has copyright and ownership rights to the certification scheme. He issues licensing agreements to certification bodies.

WHO HAS THE RIGHT TO CERTIFY?

Only the certification bodies associated with the Fund have the right to issue accredited FSSC 22000 certificates. Licensing is based on an agreement between the Food Safety Certification Foundation and the certification body. Moreover, it presupposes the availability of FSSC 22000 accreditation. The accredited bodies are eligible for certification of FSSC 22000 only after the conclusion of an agreement with the Fund.

Accreditation is carried out by the accreditation body associated with FSSC 22000, which meets the requirements of the Rules for accreditation bodies (Part III). Licensed certification authorities are required to comply strictly with all requirements of FSSC 22000.

The certification bodies associated with the Fund are required to participate in consultations on clarifying the requirements of the scheme. 
Since FSSC 22000 fully integrates all the requirements of ISO 22000, ISO 22003, the technical sector specifications of PPC and ISO / IEC 17021, the accreditation bodies must recognize the FSSC 22000 scheme "Food Safety Management System" belonging to the Netherlands Food Safety Certification Foundation, as a certification scheme, which can be implemented within the framework of accreditation according to ISO / IEC 17021.
Accreditation services should be provided to all interested certification bodies that want to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of FSSC 22000 and ISO / IEC 17021.
